BRAUN + YOSHIDA ARCHITECTS

A Housing Practice Committed to the Cutting Edge
Design of Livable Homes and Livable Neighborhoods

B
+Y
began in Denver in 1989 focusing on architecture. Since then, we have extended our practice to include neighborhood and town planning. Our breadth of experience enables us to work on projects that re-define the possibilities of neighborhood design.

B+Y’s architectural work includes a wide range of housing types, from speculative attached and detached homes to custom homes and mixed-use projects.  Our knowledge of construction scheduling and the cost effectiveness of our construction specifications enable B+Y to design successful market rate homes. Historic styling using precedents from Denver’s past has provided inspiration for large custom projects.

Our homes enhance the livability of communities.  This might include adding front porches, 9’ tree lawns and accessing alleys from the rear.  Livable floor plans are a major consideration.  Our plans are designed to accommodate the variety lifestyles in a diverse marketplace. Interior plans flow easily, accommodating a wide range of activities.  Furniture placement and storage are always carefully defined.

We work closely with jurisdictions and developers to create livable communities. Jurisdictions recognize quality design.  For this reason B+Y’s design combined with our zoning and planning knowledge expedites the entitlement process.   This emphasis on quality has also led to the preparation of design guidelines for developments and jurisdictions.

Recent mixed-use plans include parks, town centers, schools and churches. Careful consideration is always given to the relationship between the house and the site.  Analysis of street sections provides information about sight lines, street widths and distance between private and public sectors.  Our experience has shown the benefits of a thorough examination of a site, from the broadest to the most detailed planning considerations.
